SEPTEMBER 2011 WORKSHOP SCHEDULE
Monday, September 12th - 6:30pm to 9pm
Basic DSLR Camera – Mel Carll instructor $159 for all 3 sessions (Part 1 of a 3 part workshop)
This 3 session workshop will focus only on the camera. We will start session 1 at the beginning with camera modes, aperture, shutter, and ISO, what these mean, and where they are on your camera. We will also discuss how they work together to create the photos you are looking for and then talk about what to work on during the days between sessions. This is a hands-on class, please bring your DSLR camera to class. This class is not geared toward point and shoot cameras.
(Part 2 will be held on 9/19 and Part 3 on 9/26/2011).

This 3 session workshop will focus only on the camera. We will start session 2 where we left off in session 1 with a review, then on to depth of field, lens selection, exposure compensation, white balance and composition. This is a hands-on class, please bring your DSLR camera to class. This class is not geared toward point and shoot cameras. (Part 1 will be held on 9/12 and Part 3 on 9/26/2011)
Tuesday, September 20th -7pm to 9:30pm
Better Landscape Images in Photoshop – Layers, Masks & Composites Made Easy – David Saffir instructor $99 (Part 1 of a 2 part workshop)
You can use layers and masks in Photoshop to tune up and enhance your landscape images – giving them new life and sparkle! Do you want to add a moon, combine a great sky with a great landscape image, or blend two exposures of the same scene? You’ll learn:
- Which images will and will not work for combining and compositing
- Blending images to increase shadow/highlight detail and improve light rendering
- How to use layers and channels to make your image easy to edit
- Using a “layer mask” to brush on, or brush off, a special effect or enhancement
- How to make selections to “cut and copy” part of an image and make it look natural
- How to use the selection tools and which work best for each situation
- Using “color replace” tool to enhance selected colors, or to prepare an image for conversion to black and white
- BONUS: tips and tricks using Nik Silver Efex Pro 2 and Nik Viveza with layer techniques
You are welcomed to bring a laptop to follow along and practice, as we will have images to work together so that you understand the process via hands on editing. (Part 2 will be held on 9/27/11)

We will start session 3 with a review of the assignment, sort out the mysteries and then dive back into the camera. Other topics will include color space, exposure controls, bracketing, flash and whatever else time permits. So bring in that camera and let’s get down to what makes it work. This is a hands-on class, please bring your DSLR camera to class. This class is not geared toward point and shoot cameras. (Part 1 will be held on 9/12 and part 2 on 9/19/2011).

1 Sweet Night of Photoshop – David Green instructor $79
In this workshop for beginners and people new to Photoshop, we’ll cover the basics of Photoshop, reviewing the essential features and learning how Photoshop organizes them to make your workflow smooth and strong. We’ll start with Bridge, and the way it organizes your images and gives you access to some of Photoshop’s best features without having to even open Photoshop. Then, we’ll spend about 30 minutes exploring the awesome power of Adobe Camera RAW. Finally, we’ll review the new Adobe Photoshop CS5, including awesome features like “Content-Aware Fill” and “HDR Pro.” This class is also a good review of the features for intermediate users who never really learned the workflow.

Studio Portrait Lighting – Ted Dayton instructor $79
Spend an evening learning how to make your subjects look their best using Ted’s simple and time-tested methods that lead to more great shots and fewer bad ones. Learn how to take control of the set and how to get your subjects to contribute to their own beautiful portraits. This class begins with a slide show lecture and then a demonstration covering lighting, basic posing, lens selection, camera position and many other subtle tricks the pros know from experience that will improve your images no matter what you like to shoot. There will also be a processing demonstration tailored specifically for portrait photography, so be sure to bring your laptop and follow along as Ted shows how to fully finish those great new portraits you’ll be taking!
