Thursday, October 4th - 6:30pm to 9pm
Basic DSLR Camera – Mel Carll, instructor $159 for all 3 sessions (Part 1 of a 3 part workshop)
This 3 session workshop will focus only on the camera. We will start session 1 at the beginning with camera modes, aperture, shutter, and ISO, what these mean, and where they are on your camera. We will also discuss how they work together to create the photos you are looking for and then talk about what to work on during the days between sessions. This is a hands-on class, please bring your DSLR camera to class. This class is not geared toward point and shoot cameras. (Part 2 will be held on 10/11 and Part 3 on 10/18/2012).
Monday, October 8th - 6:30pm to 9pm
Art and Practice: The Black & White Portrait – David Saffir $119 (Part 1 of a 2 part workshop)
This 2 session class is intended for intermediate-level photographers who wish to improve their skills in black and white portraiture. David will cover the following topics in week 1 during a live shoot:
- An overview of styles and approaches to black and white portraiture
- A hands-on session on studio lighting in two styles: High-Key and Rembrandt-style with a live shoot with a model
- David will be shooting tethered to a computer display for easy viewing
- We will use appropriate lighting and color management tools
This is a great opportunity to work with studio lighting, refine your photographic style and understand fine-tuning of your black and white images so they sparkle and impress! You are encouraged to bring your camera, portrait lens and light meters, but it is not required. Part 2 will be on 10/15/12.
Thursday, October 11th - 6:30pm to 9pm
Basic DSLR Camera – Mel Carll, instructor (Part 2 of a 3 part workshop)
This is a hands-on class, please bring your DSLR camera to class. This 3 session workshop will focus only on the camera. We will start session 2 where we left off in session 1 with a review, then on to depth of field, lens selection, exposure compensation, white balance and composition. This is a hands-on class, please bring your DSLR camera to class. This class is not geared toward point and shoot cameras. (Part 1 will be held on 10/4 and Part 3 on 10/18/2012).
Monday, October 15th - 6:30pm to 9:30pm
Art and Practice: The Black & White Portrait – David Saffir (Part 2 of a 2 part workshop)
Tonight is all about processing the images from week 1. David will cover the following topics as he shows you how to process your images from week 1:
- Editing the image library for final selections for processing
- Foundations of image editing for portraiture including managing white and black points, dynamic range and mid-tones
- Converting color images to black and white. This will include Photoshop, Lightroom and Nik Silver Efex Pro 2
- Fine tuning images after conversion including skin tones, light and shadow and tone transitions
Please bring your computer with either Photoshop or Lightroom to work on processing of your images, but it is not required. Part 1 will be held on 10/8/12.
Thursday, October 18th – 6:30pm to 9pm
Basic DSLR Camera – Mel Carll, instructor (Part 3 of a 3 part workshop)
We will start session 3 with a review of the assignment, sort out the mysteries and then dive back into the camera. Other topics will include color space, exposure controls, bracketing, flash and whatever else time permits. So bring in that camera and let’s get down to what makes it work. This is a hands-on class, please bring your DSLR camera to class. This class is not geared toward point and shoot cameras. (Part 1 will be held on 10/4 and part 2 on 10/11/2012)
