Wednesday November 4th – 6:30pm to 9:30pm
Photoshop 101 – David Green instructor, $59 (Sign up for all 3 for just $150, a savings of $27) HURRY ONLY 1 SPOT LEFT
New to Photoshop? This three-part class starts at the very beginning, from viewing images in Bridge, to opening an image, basic editing, layers, adjustments, brushes, shortcut keys and more. Photoshop 101 will cover Opening files in Photoshop and bridge, organizing the workspace, tools palette, keyboard shortcuts, navigating within an image, selecting parts of an image, and Undo and history. (Take one class, or take all three. They will be organized to offer the most benefit whether you take them all or not) To get the most out of the class, please bring a laptop with Photoshop loaded. CS4 is recommended, but not required. Most of the topics are supported in earlier versions of Photoshop. (Photoshop 102 on 11/11/09 and Photoshop 103 on 11/18/09.)
Friday, November 6th through Sunday, November 8th – 9am to 4pm
Painting for Photographers – Karen Sperling, Corel Painter Master instructor $695
Learn to turn photos into paintings in Corel Painter and Adobe Photoshop, and then find out how to paint with acrylics on the canvas printout of the results.
By the end of the class, you will have a canvas print of your artwork enhanced with acrylics as you will paint on the canvas during this workshop to keep, give away as a present, or sell! No prior art experience is necessary. Included in the 3-day class are the art lessons and software steps that you need to produce your work of art! This class is for you whether you’re a professional photographer interested in offering paintings to clients or a hobbyist who would like to paint your kids and grandkids. Teaching the class is original Painter expert and Corel Painter Master Karen Sperling, author of the highly acclaimed book Painting for Photographers, and writer of the first several Painter manuals and three previous Painter books.
Saturday, November 7th – 9am to 2pm
Great Pictures with your Point and Shoot – Tony Zinnanti instructor $89
Just in time for the holidays, learn to take advantage of all aspects of your point and shoot camera to create brilliant, memorable images. This workshop is open to new and amateur photographers seeking to push their point and shoot to the next level. Tony will teach you how to creatively use “Manual” mode and all the preset modes on your point and shoot. As well, you will learn to maximize the built in flash and “diffuse” the flash on the fly for wonderful soft lighting. The workshop also covers composition and focusing techniques, as well as file management and some digital processing skills. (Attendees under the age of 14 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.)

Photoshop 102 – David Green instructor $59
Part two picks up with such topics as file types and color space. David will also talk about all the basic photography related tools. Then he will discuss adjustments, filters, plug-ins, and the all important layers and adjustment layers. (Take one class, or take all three. They will be organized to offer the most benefit whether you take them all or not) To get the most out of the class, please bring a laptop with Photoshop loaded. CS4 is recommended, but not required. Thursday, November 12th – 7pm to 9:30pm
Composition and Inspiration – Ted Dayton instructor $59
Ted will discuss his philosophical approach to image-making, combined with time-tested principals of photographic composition to help you develop your own vision. He will cover effective shooting tips and provide you with a fun list of self-assignments to get you thinking about photography in ways you haven’t before. Feel free to bring three digital images and get comments from Ted in this inspiring and unique look at the making of great photos.

Friday Night Foto Jam – $5
Come hang out with your fellow photographers in a casual atmosphere and bring your laptop! We will layout tables, chairs and power strips. Work on images; help others. We will have music and light snacks as well, so come join us for a casual evening of fun, photos, and camaraderie.

Developing your eye: Finding art all around you – David Green instructor $79
The digital era was supposed to make photography easier, but we’ve gone from the days where a photographer’s primary concerns were f-stop, shutter speed and focus, to a new age of megapixels, color balance, bit-depth, dynamic range, sharpening, shooting modes, Photoshop, CF cards, etc., etc., etc. Where does it all end? We are getting so lost in the weeds with all the technical mumbo-jumbo that we are forgetting the reason we became interested in photography in the first place: To create beautiful images! This workshop will help us take the first tentative steps in finding our creative mojos, shedding the weight of technology and SEEING the art that surrounds us. Please bring a digital camera to class.
Saturday, November 14th – 9am to 4pm
Advanced Outdoor Portrait/Event Workshop, Tony Zinnanti instructor $149
This is an advanced workshop for aspiring wedding, event and portrait photographers. The workshop addresses the complex mix of technical and management skills necessary to successful outdoor event photography. This workshop covers all aspects of photography under available lighting, field strobe lighting, composition, group lighting, equipment choices and successful client management. Technical skills include strobe calculation, multi-strobe calculation, light temperature and white balance, skin tone compensation, window light and use of compositional elements. The student will learn how to use a hand held light (incident) meter. Client management issues include your agreement, rights, pre-shoot planning, on-site planning and management of assistants. This workshop is specifically tailored for the photographer that has some experience with portrait shoots (studio or outdoor), weddings and events and seeks to further their skills or fill in gaps in knowledge. Workshop attendees must know how to use their camera in “Manual” mode and, preferably, some knowledge of RAW processing.

Design & Create a Holiday or Special Event Book and Create Holiday Cards– David Saffir instructor, $89
Learn how to edit your portfolio to match a book design, choose your strongest images, matching images to each page, preparing your book for printing, choosing a printer, and then distributing your book. This class also provides a good foundation for those who wish to create their own wedding or portrait album designs. Then learn how to create your own holiday cards. From picking the image to final product. Amaze your family and friends with wonderful holiday cards.
Tuesday, November 17th – 6:30pm to 9:30pm
Basics of Adobe Lightroom – Dan Holmes instructor $59
Adobe Lightroom is a program that is a dream for digital photographers. This workshop will cover the 5 modules of Lightroom, with the main focus on the Library and Develop modules. Dan will cover importing and managing your files, photo editing and color correcting, using and creating presets, synchronizing between images, exporting and finishing in Photoshop, creating a slideshow, printing and creating a webpage. You may bring a laptop but it is not required.

Part three continues with such topics as printing, web and email of files, batch and action automation, additional Bridge tips, additional Camera Raw tips, Photoshop Help screens, workspace tips, and a few surprise tips along the way. (Take one class, or take all three. They will be organized to offer the most benefit whether you take them all or not) To get the most out of the class, please bring a laptop with Photoshop loaded. Ted’s Keys to Photo Success – Ted Dayton instructor $59
Come spend an evening with Inside SCV magazine photographer Ted Dayton as he shows you his 10 keys for shooting great pictures and 10 keys on how to use Photoshop like a pro. Bring your camera as we learn about lenses, shutter speeds, apertures and setting the correct color space. We will also learn to decipher that histogram and understand when to use various shoot modes.
