February 2010 WORKSHOP SCHEDULE
Friday, February 5th – 7pm to 9pm
Friday Night Foto Jam – $5
Come hang out with your fellow photographers in a casual atmosphere and bring your laptop! We will layout tables, chairs and power strips. Work on images; help others. We will have music and light snacks as well, so come join us for a casual evening of fun, photos, and camaraderie.
Saturday, February 6th – 9am to 3pm
Basic DSLR Camera – Mel Carll instructor $129 for both sessions (Part 1 of a 2 part workshop)
This 2 session workshop will focus only on the camera. We will start session 1 at the beginning with camera modes, aperture, shutter, ISO, depth of field and white balance. What these mean, and where they are on your camera. We will also discuss how they work together to create the photos you are looking for and then talk about what to work on during the days between sessions. This is a hands-on class, please bring your DSLR camera to class. This class is not geared toward point and shoot camera. (Part 2 will be held on 2/22/10)
Wednesday, February 10th – 6:30pm to 9:30pm
Mastering Digital Printing – David Saffir instructor $99 for both evenings (Part 1 of a 2 part workshop)
Join us for this intensive fine art printing course that will help you make the kind of prints you want, when you want them. The principles and techniques taught will apply to the majority of current color inkjet printers with the focus on Epson, HP and Canon. We will cover the process from start to finish, preparing the image for print, setting up the printer, adjusting your software for the best results, screen calibration and screen to print matching, the printing process, evaluating the finished print, troubleshooting, and if time permits, an introduction to print coating and finishing. We will make, evaluate, and correct prints during the class. We will chose 3-5 images from the students and turn into finished prints, so please bring a few images. (Part 2 will be held on 2/17/10.)

Photoshop 201 – Advanced Output and Features, David Green instructor, $59 (Sign up for all 3 for just $150, a savings of $27)
In this class, we review Output: Printing, images for web/email, color space and high-end press will all be covered. From there, we will cover batch and action automation. Then we will take your Photoshop mastery to the next level with tips for Bridge, Camera Raw and customizing your workspace. (Take one class, or take all three. They will be organized to offer the most benefit whether you take them all or not. HOWEVER, you will be expected to have a basic level of Photoshop and computer knowledge, or to have taken Photoshop 101 through 103.) To get the most out of the class, please bring a laptop with Photoshop loaded. CS4 is recommended, but not required. Most of the topics are supported in earlier versions of Photoshop. (Photoshop 202 on 2/18/10 and Photoshop 203 on 2/25/10.)

Composition, Inspiration and Location Shoot – Ted Dayton instructor $129 for all 3 sessions (Part 1 of a 3 part workshop)
Come join instructor Ted as we take a 3 part journey into composition and gain inspiration during a location shoot. Our first night will include Ted’s philosophical approach to image-making, combined with time-tested principals of photographic composition to help you develop your own vision. He will then discuss the plans for day 2 on Saturday, February 20th. (Part 2 will be held on 2/20/10 and Part 3 on 2/24/10.)

Photoshop 202 - Advanced Layers, David Green Instructor, $59 (Sign up for all 3 for just $150, a savings of $27)
This class will cover what may be Photoshop’s most important feature: Layers. All aspects of Layers, Layer Masks, and Adjustment Layers will be covered. We will review how to apply fine adjustments to a small part of an image, combine multiple images into a single composite without ever destroying any part of the originals, retouch skin without affecting clothing, give yourself the power of infinite undo, even if you save and close an image, and much, much more! (Take one class, or take all three. They will be organized to offer the most benefit whether you take them all or not. HOWEVER, you will be expected to have a basic level of Photoshop and computer knowledge, or to have taken Photoshop 101 through 103.) Saturday, February 20th – 10am to 2pm (Meet directly at Location, not studio)
Composition, Inspiration and Location Shoot – Ted Dayton instructor (Fee included in Part 1) (Part 2 of a 3 part workshop)
Today you will meet Ted at the local venue discussed in Part 1. During the location shoot, Ted will assist you with technical issues such as lens selection, camera settings and composition as you take what was learned in part 1 and put to practice. Ted will also talk about the image you are taking and how it might be worked in Photoshop to finish the image. (Part 3 will be held on 2/24/10.)
Monday, February 22nd – 6:30pm to 9:30pm

We will start session 2 with a review of the assignment, sort out the mysteries and then dive back into the camera. Other topics will include color space, exposure controls, bracketing and whatever else time permits. So bring in that camera and let’s get down to what makes it work. This is a hands-on class, please bring your DSLR camera to class. This class is not geared toward point and shoot camera. (Part 1 will be held on 2/6/10)
Tuesday, February 23rd – 7pm to 10pm
Introduction to Photoshop Elements 8.0 – David Green instructor $69
Photoshop… It’s expensive, it’s complicated, and, did I say it was expensive? Why not try Adobe Elements instead? Find out how this inexpensive program can do most of what a photographer needs, at a fraction of the cost of Photoshop, in a much simpler interface. If you don’t already own Elements, download the free trial at www.adobe.com. You are expected to have a basic level of computer knowledge. Please bring your laptops for this workshop.
Wednesday, February 24th – 6:30pm to 9:30pm (Meet at studio)

This class will include a critique of the images made on Saturday. We will also discuss the ups and downs of your photo shoot, and look deeper into the compositions that were captured. Ted will also discuss tips on finishing the images in Photoshop and finishing your photographs.

Photoshop 203 - Advanced Techniques, David Green Instructor, $59 (Sign up for all 3 for just $150, a savings of $27)
This class covers specific advanced techniques for retouching images. David will teach you how to improve your landscapes, fine-tune portraits, enhance night photography, and more. Bring your problem images and David will show the class how they can be improved. Can you stump him? (Take one class, or take all three. They will be organized to offer the most benefit whether you take them all or not. HOWEVER, you will be expected to have a basic level of Photoshop and computer knowledge, or to have taken Photoshop 101 through 103.) Saturday, February 27th – 9am to 4pm
Close-up and Macro Photography – Ron Brewer instructor $119
Today is all about close-up and macro photography and getting close to bring out the detail of your subject in this hands on class. We start with a demo of macro photos and how the shot happened, showing both before and after the edits. We will then discuss the setup including background considerations, selection of subject, lighting ideas and options, camera setup and getting the close-up image. Next we break out to live shooting and apply what we have learned. We will have a variety of macro subjects on different sets to shoot, practice and ask questions. To close, we will edit those images in Photoshop learning a few new ways to process macro images. Bring you cameras and laptops with CS3 or CS4 loaded as the demonstrations will be in Photoshop. You will end the day with some great new macro shots to add to your portfolio.
