You don’t have to go somewhere exotic to make great art. In this composition-based workshop, we will learn how to make art out of your everyday surroundings. We will take our cameras out and search for interesting items you would normally just pass by. Then, we will go back into the classroom and download our images and process them in class. This is a hands-on workshop, so please bring a camera, laptop with Photoshop and a card reader to load your images.

This 3 session workshop will focus only on the camera. We will start session 1 at the beginning with camera modes, aperture, shutter, and ISO, what these mean, and where they are on your camera. We will also discuss how they work together to create the photos you are looking for and then talk about what to work on during the days between sessions. Studio Lighting & Posing – Ted Dayton instructor $119 (Part 1 of a 2 part workshop)
Spend an evening with Ted Dayton and learn how to make your best studio portraits ever. Learn how to fine tune but simplify your lighting, how to make posing easy and natural and – best of all – how to work within what Ted calls The Safe Zone, where the best shots are. Ted will show his work, explain basic lighting theory and techniques, and then demonstrate them on a live model. And then the fun begins when you take to the set for your own pictures with Ted watching and helping right there next to you. Bring up to 5 of your images you are interested in taking to another level. We will work on those images and see how you can improve them. We will play with composition, cropping, effects and Photoshop Plug-in craziness. Learn to see the hidden potential in your images. Bring your laptop as this will be a hands-on class. (Depending on the number of students, we may not get to all images.) Attempts to “stump the instructor” with your “problem” images are welcome!

This 3 session workshop will take what you have learned in Basic Camera and focus behind the camera. A continuation of Ted’s Studio Lighting and Posing class from June 16th, this 3-hour evening class is all about portrait retouching, using mainly Photoshop, but also employing a few of Ted’s top-secret, don’t-tell-anyone, never-before-seen, magical methods that he will happily show you so you can call them your own. Learn how to retouch heavily without your images looking overdone. Learn how to make people look so good they will tell you, ‘These are the best pictures anyone has ever taken of me!’ This is a fun class that will transform your portraits right away.

Today we take our photography to the streets. That’s right, no indoor class today as we head outside. Join Mel as you take everything you have learned and head outdoors and start taking photographs, not just snap shots. Today we will focus on composition, lighting, exposure and just having fun in the field. Please bring your camera, tripod, charged batteries, memory cards and your sense of adventure. Dress comfortably. (Part 1 will be held on 6/21 and part 3 on 6/28/10.)

We will start session 3 with a review of our images from the location shot on Saturday. We will discuss more on composition, types of photography and how each type requires a different thought process. This is a hands-on class, please bring your DSLR camera to class. Tuesday, June 29th – 6:30pm to 9pm

We will start session 3 with a review of the assignment, sort out the mysteries and then dive back into the camera. Other topics will include color space, exposure controls, bracketing and whatever else time permits. So bring in that camera and let’s get down to what makes it work. Landscape Photography – Vision and Tools, Sharing the Power of Nature – Dan Holmes instructor $ 69
Vision is more than just what you see, it is also what you feel. Tools are the gear (hardware) and the compositional elements (software) used to capture that vision.
Powerful photography combines all these elements! In this 3 hour session, we will explore the elements of Vision and the use of Tools in creating powerful Landscape photographs. Award winning photographer, Dan Holmes will lead the class on a visual journey into the world of Landscape & Nature photography. We will discuss the elements of powerful vision, finding that power in nature, and using the camera to capture that vision. We will virtually visit some of the most beautiful places on earth: some famous, some right out the back door. Bring 2-3 of your favorite images – files or prints – for inclusion in the discussion.
