Developing your eye: Finding art all around you – David Green instructor $79
The digital era was supposed to make photography easier, but we’ve gone from the days where a photographer’s primary concerns were f-stop, shutter speed and focus, to a new age of megapixels, color balance, bit-depth, dynamic range, sharpening, shooting modes, Photoshop, CF cards, etc., etc., etc. Where does it all end? We are getting so lost in the weeds with all the technical mumbo-jumbo that we are forgetting the reason we became interested in photography in the first place: To create beautiful images! This workshop will help us take the first tentative steps in finding our creative mojos, shedding the weight of technology and SEEING the art that surrounds us. Please bring a digital camera to class.
Thursday August 13th – 6:30pm to 9:30pm
50 Quick Tips for Better Photos – David Green instructor $59
Why should you use your flash during the daytime? How can you make your next family portrait fun and whimsical instead of stiff with fake smiles? What is the one prop that can almost always break the ice with a grumpy subject? Learn the answer to these questions and more in this fast-paced, take-no-prisoners workshop. Whether you are a beginner, intermediate or advanced photographer, there will be at least one tip worth the price of admission!
Saturday, August 15th – 9am to 1pm
What the heck is Raw Processing Anyway? - Ted Dayton instructor $79
Ted will take us through the steps of processing a single RAW digital camera file and also demonstrate how to process that file more than once for powerful, professional-looking results. Bring your laptops so that you can work images as well and get assistance on the fly.
Sunday, August 16th – 9am to 4pm
Using Adobe products to Design & Create a Book – David Saffir instructor
Learn how to edit your portfolio to match a book design, choose your strongest images, matching images to each page, preparing your book for printing, choosing a printer, and then distributing your book as a product, portfolio, and marketing tool. This class also provides a good foundation for those who wish to create their own wedding or portrait album designs. Register at www.davidsaffir.com
Wednesday, August 26th – 7pm to 9pm
Basic Composition and Camera Settings – Ted Dayton instructor $45
Timeless principals for professional-looking pictures. Whether you are old school or state of the art through composition and cropping, effective camera angles and lens selection, and a basic understanding of camera lens optics. You can have images as good as the pros. Bring 3 images for discussion and critique.
Thursday, August 27th – 6:30pm to 9:30pm
Taking Your Photoshop to the Next level With Layers and Layer Masks – David Green instructor $59
White reveals, black conceals? What the heck does that mean? Learn the magic of layer masks, the not-so-secret Photoshop tool that all the pros use. Apply fine adjustments to a small part of an image, combine multiple images into a single composite without ever destroying any part of the originals, retouch skin without affecting clothing, give yourself the power of infinite undo, even if you save and close an image, and much, much more! Once you start using layer masks, you won’t be able to stop. Almost every image you edit can be edited better with layer masks.
In this workshop, we will learn:
• The basics about how layers work
• The power of adjustment layers
• The power of masks
• Using quick mask to make difficult selections
• Why layer masks are better than erasing pixels
• The power of blend modes
• Simple steps to improve almost every image you take
• When to merge layers
• Layer styles
• Keyboard shortcuts
Saturday, August 29th – 9am to 4pm
